DTN COMMENTS: The country is slow to start this morning, bid are few and far
between, but packer inquiry should improve as the day progresses. Asking
prices are around $115 to $116 in the South and $185 plus in the North. A
light scattered trade took place yesterday with Southern live trade marked
at $114, fully steady with last week's weighted averages. Northern dressed
business was at mostly $181, roughly .50 higher than last week's weighted
average basis Nebraska. Beef cutouts are expected to be mixed with light to
moderate box movement.

The Special Fed Cattle Exchange Auction today listed a total of 790 head (TX
662 head, KS 54 head, OK 74 head), of which none sold, as they did not meet
the reserve prices, that ranged from $115 to $116. Opening prices were at
$113.50, high bids ranged from $114.25 to $114.50.
